ATİK- Trade and Cooperation Council was founded in 2005 by Mr. Aziz ŞAHİN who is President of ATİK.
President Aziz ŞAHİN who is Turkish businessman started his work in EU countries, mostly in Germany and Brussels. With 13 years ATİK organization was grown bigger and by the year 2018 President Aziz ŞAHİN doing very tight cooperation with 48 countries and 147 cities all over the world.
Creating economic, commercial, political and cultural bonds between cities is an old tradition. In today's world, with the help of globalization, democratization, local participation, the relationship between cities has become a lot deeper, stronger and active. The most concrete and notable type among these are the "sister city" relationships.
Sister cities or twin towns are a form of legal or social agreement between towns, cities, counties, oblasts, prefectures, provinces, regions, states, and even countries.
In EU the modern concept of town twinning, conceived after the Second World War in 1947, was intended to foster friendship and understanding between different cultures and between former foes as an act of peace and reconciliation,and to encourage trade and tourism.
The U.S. sister city program began in 1956 when President Dwight D. Eisenhower proposed a people-to-people, citizen diplomacy initiative. Originally a program of the National League of Cities, Sister Cities International became a separate, nonprofit corporation in 1967, due to the growth and popularity of the U.S. program
As the Trade and Cooperation Council (ATİK), we support the relationships between Turkish municipalities and their counterparts in the whole world. It is a new shape of sister city projects which is an important part of our activities. We hope that our work is beneficial to all parties involved.
ATİK organization’s policy is to have local presidents for its branches in each country to enhance the loyality and knowledge of the local culture. The president can lead any twinning procedures such as city - city, municipality - municipality , chamber-chamber or university - university taking the proper steps and achieving legal authorizations.
